📢 Australia’s 2026–27 Migration Program has been announced

The Australian Government has confirmed that the 2026–27 Permanent Migration Program will remain at 185,000 places.

The program keeps an approximate 70:30 split between the Skilled and Family programs, with the Skill stream allocated 132,240 places.

What does this mean?

This is not a major increase in migration numbers.
However, while the total cap remains steady, there is a significant internal shift: Employer-Sponsored places have increased to 58,040, up from 44,000, while Regional visa places have been reduced.

The Talent & Innovation category has also been allocated 3,500 places for 2026–27, which includes pathways such as the National Innovation Visa.

For skilled workers, graduates and prospective applicants, the key message is clear:

✅ skilled migration remains a major focus
✅ occupation demand still matters
✅ employer-sponsored pathways should be watched closely
✅ Talent & Innovation remains part of the planning levels
✅ early planning and eligibility review are essential

The migration system is not simply becoming more open, it is becoming more targeted.
